What is Recovery Coaching

Recovery Coaching is a way of working with bad habits or self destructive behaviour that is on its way or has already got out of control and is becoming obsessive, compulsive or addictive.

It is an alternative and complementary approach to counselling and other traditional approaches to working in this area.

It differs from counselling and treatment as it works with the present going forward into the future and focuses on a client's goals and dreams and how they would like their life to be. It does take account of the past in terms of identifying and working with repeating patterns that are impacting on the present but it is not focused on the past.

It differs from sponsoring in a 12 Step programme as it focuses on the client and uses whatever tools will help them to change rather than just using the 12 steps.

Recovery coaching works with people in all stages of recovery and stays with the client throughout the whole process using whatever tool, technique, intervention that is appropriate for the client with the client’s full knowledge and permission.
It works with the family/friend/work/relationship network and acknowledges the impact on these, helping all the people involved to get their lives back on track.

We believe that people who work with a recovery coach will accelerate their recovery process by keeping focused on their goals, dreams and bigger picture. It replaces destructive ways of coping with more life enhancing strategies, and builds a stronger sense of self worth.
